The Judge is a derivative of the Taurus Tracker. It comes in three barrel lengths, two cylinder lengths and two finishes. This 5-shot double-action (DA/SA) is chambered to fire both .45 Colt cartridges and .410 shot shells. However, the Judge does not qualify as a ‘short-barreled shotgun’ under the National Firearms Act of 1934 as its rifled barrel makes it a regular handgun. The Judge was originally marketed as the Model 44, but according to Taurus President, Bob Morrison, a number of judges expressed interest in carrying .410 loads into the courtroom and the name was changed.
